things of the utmost importance
My name is MacKenzie. I have a complex about capitalization. I have lived in Chicago, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Randolph, NJ; San Jose, CA; Minnetonka, MN; Darien, CT; and Boston, MA. In August, I'm off to Glasgow to avoid adulthood by going to school some more. Adventure!

Anonymous asked: most people think you're a good writer because you never pass up a chance to use an adjective or adverb and always use twenty words when ten would suffice, but those of us with good taste know that you could really stand to pare down. when you catch an adjective, kill it.

I wouldn’t say “most people” - I’d say “the people who read your writing,” which is quite a different thing. I agree that I tend to be long-winded and I keep a stack of adjectives and adverbs close at hand, but that’s because I really do like to be descriptive and I’m still learning how to refine my casual writing. I in no way purport this ‘blog as a showcase of my professional and polished writing, because if that’s what this was everything would be very long, probably boring, and all about literature and literary periods and philosophies - I could post academic essays all day and all night that I’m certain those of you with good taste wouldn’t wag a finger at, but that’s not what I’m here for. I have professors to read and give feedback on my polished writing, and this ‘blog is an outlet for most other things - things I find funny, observations, my paltry attempts at creative writing, whatever they may be. Thank you for the feedback. I always appreciate commentary on my writing, especially commentary that leans toward the negative, but please understand that I am not going to take your ultimate advice and “kill” the adjectives that catch in my brain - I am going to nurture them and pair them with their friends and let them continue to frolic in the casual fields of the writing on my ‘blog, and if my developing style continues to irk you please check back in four or five years.
